90% threshold exceeded for the first time
„Words move worlds“ is the motto of the Leipzig Book Fair, which will open its doors from March 27th to 30th this year. The FSC label also moves the world of books, as the latest figures from FSC Germany’s Bestseller Study show.
The proportion of paper used from responsible forest management has already increased by 4% from 86% in 2017 to 90% in 2021. In this year’s edition of FSC Germany’s Bestseller Study, 94% of the books examined carried the FSC label – surpassing the 90% threshold for the first time.
Top performer: Paperback Fiction
The study examined the top 15 titles from all categories of SPIEGEL bestsellers over a four-week period (weeks 06-09). After fiction hardcovers performed slightly worse with an average FSC certification rate of only81%, they improved significantly this year with a rate of97%. Only paperback fiction surpassed them with a rateof98%, another significant increase compared to83% in2021. Overall, only paperback non-fiction fell belowthe90%-markthisyear.
